Windows 10 End of Life

14th October 2025 Marks the End of Windows 10 Support & Updates

The countdown begins. On October 14, 2025, Windows 10 will officially reach its end of support. From this point onwards, Windows 10 will no longer receive crucial updates, software patches or customer support.

As scary as this sounds for Windows 10 users, there’s no need to panic just yet! Your PC won’t suddenly stop working in 2025. However, there are some important things to consider…

1. Lack of Security Updates

Once Windows 10 reaches its end of support, Microsoft will no longer release security updates or patches for the operating system. This means that any vulnerabilities discovered after the end-of-life date will remain unaddressed, leaving your PC exposed to potential security threats which could be detrimental to your business.

2. Increased Vulnerability

Without regular security updates, your computer becomes more susceptible to malware, viruses and other malicious attacks. Cybercriminals actively target unsupported systems, knowing that they won’t receive critical security fixes. This could easily result in anything from a data breach to an extreme ransomware attack.

3. Compatibility Issues

As software and hardware evolve, Windows 10 may encounter compatibility issues with newer applications, peripherals and devices. Unsupported drivers and software may not function correctly, leading to performance problems or system instability.

4. Limited Features & Improvements

Windows 11 introduces new features, performance enhancements, and a refreshed user interface. By sticking with Windows 10, you miss out on these advancements, including productivity tools and better multitasking capabilities.

5. Legal and Compliance Risks

Some industries and organisations have legal or compliance requirements regarding software support. Continuing to use an unsupported operating system could lead to legal issues or regulatory violations, which your company insurance may not cover in the event of a cyber attack.

The obvious solution is to simply upgrade to Windows 11 and, for many, this is an instant problem solver. However, Windows 11 has stringent hardware compatibility requirements, and if your PC doesn’t meet them, you’ll encounter an error message. For this reason, if your device is not compatible, you will need to upgrade to a newer model.
