How can you protect yourself against a
cyber attack?

Following the effects of the war between Russia and Ukraine, there is a modern threat threaded into the fight that we need to make a significant attempt to protect ourselves against.

Cyber crime has become an ever-increasing cause for concern as technology has progressed. It’s no secret that cyber attacks are being used as a fighting tactic in current events, affecting people worldwide, so we wanted to give you a few pointers on how to improve your cyber security in anticipation of a cyber attack.

Multi-step authorisation
Sacrificing a few extra seconds of your time is more than worth the security that multi-step authorisation brings you when logging in to apps, websites and even your work computer. Our Watchguard Authenticator app makes this especially easy, simply pinging a notification through to your phone that you must personally approve for access.

Back ups
Keep your data stored safely in an encrypted file, external hard drive or on the cloud in case of a destructive cyber attack. Microsoft Azure is an especially trustworthy solution for keeping your information secure; build, run and manage applications across multiple clouds with the ability to secure and recover lost data.

Phishing emails
Keep your eyes extra peeled for sly phishing emails sneaking into your inbox. If an email urges you to click a link, be aware that this could be hazardous. Remember, you can often reveal a sender’s real email address by clicking on their “From” name.

Update operating systems & apps
Any weaknesses exposed by a cyber attack will likely result in developers jumping to create a patch for the problem. Regularly update your operating systems and apps to benefit from their latest security measures.

Personal information
This probably doesn’t need to be said but be incredibly wary about giving out your personal information to anyone you don’t know and trust, and never send login details through unsecure methods.
